The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has signed an agreement with the Government of Timor-Leste to donate USD 5 million that will go towards the digitization of Centro Nacional Chega!’s archive. (see here).
Korea and Timor-Leste share similar historical experiences from occupation to independence. The donation is part of KOICA’s ongoing effort to support a better future for Timor-Leste based on peace, justice and prosperity for all. According to Rui Gomes, Timor-Leste’s Minister of Finance, the future establishment of a submarine cable linking Darwin and Dili will help disseminate more widely the digitisation of CNC’s archive as well as the country’s commitment to peace, reconciliation, human rights, and human dignity.
